The Magic of Coffee

Magical Coffee Mornings

There’s just something about coffee that warms the heart. Is it it’s bold but earthy smell? It’s distinct taste that reminds of long nights by the fire? It’s sense of calm rejuvenation? As my sister comically and thoughtfully put it, “It smells like love.” It’s a source of comfort when we’re alone, but at the same time brings people together in coffee shops and brew sessions. It’s the solution for any kind of darkness: heartbreak, rainy days, and nights where the moon hasn’t shown it’s face yet. I always say, “Bread and coffee make everything better.” Really. Try it some day. And Gianna’s pumpkin cookies.

Imagine this: you’re standing in the woods, enchanting trees standing tall, crickets lulling, and owls gently hooting. You look up at the stars and ponder the vastness of the universe, it’s openness and constant mystery. You’re filled with emotion and appreciation and just want to give yourself a big hug because everything just seems right. These are the ingredients for the amazingness that is coffee.

Every week during our year of high school together, my sister and I would stop by our local coffee shop. We would do it to pull us through the week, or to reward ourselves for surviving another five days of high school. It would be the worst day of the week so that our day would suddenly become good. Because that is the magic of coffee; it simply makes things better. Again, you should try it sometime.

The cup in this picture was a graduation gift from a girlfriend of mine. It’s one of those Starbucks mugs where you can decorate it yourself and then bake the cup to permanently set the design. It’s beautiful, asking, “Coffee or Tea?” and “Biscotti or Muffins?” It’s happy and frilly, yet warm and cozy. It was one of the most thoughtful gifts I received because she took the time to do all of this. I want her to know that I will always be grateful for it, because she has made one of my mornings better. It’s better because of the simple magic of coffee.
